Local SEO for pest control

Get into the map results where most pest calls start

When someone finds mice in the pantry, they search on a phone and call one of the three companies in the map. Local SEO is how you become one of the three: a Business Profile that matches the search, reviews that keep coming, listings that agree, and town pages for the edges of your route.

Plate 01 / Why the map

Pest emergencies are local and urgent

Pest searches are some of the most local searches there are. Nobody wants a company two counties away for a wasp nest over the back door. Google knows that, so for "pest control near me", "exterminator [town]" and most pest-plus-town searches it shows a map with three businesses above the regular results.

The map picks those three from relevance, distance and prominence. Distance is fixed: it's where you are and where the searcher is. The other two are work you can do, and they are where a local company with 60 honest reviews and a complete profile can beat a national brand with a generic listing.

The map has limits too. It reaches only so far from your location, so the towns at the far end of your route are won in the regular results, with town pages. Local SEO for pest control is both halves together.

Plate 02 / The work

Six things that move a pest control company up the map

This is what our team works through with you, in this order. Golden and higher packages include the on-page audit that turns it into a fixes list for your site and profile.

No. 01Local lever

Business Profile that matches the search

Pest Control Service as the primary category, the right secondary ones, a services list written pest by pest (termite inspection, rodent exclusion, mosquito treatment), your real service area with the address hidden if you work from home, and photos of your own trucks and work. No keyword-stuffed business name: Google treats that as spam and can suspend the profile.

No. 02Local lever

Reviews that keep coming

A review count frozen two years ago tells Google and homeowners the same thing. Recurring customers are your best source: a short text from the technician after a visit that solved a problem. Every customer gets asked, not only the happy ones, and nobody gets paid for a review. Both are Google's rules.

No. 03Local lever

Citations that agree with each other

Your name, address and phone the same on every listing that matters: the big data aggregators, Yelp, BBB, Angi, Nextdoor, your state pest control association's directory. Old addresses from a move and duplicate listings from a rebrand get cleaned up, because conflicting data makes Google less sure where you are.

No. 04Local lever

Town pages worth reading

The Map Pack favors businesses close to the searcher, so the towns at the edge of your route need organic pages instead. One page per town where you actually have customers and something specific to say: the pests you see there, the neighborhoods, how often you are on that route. Never the same page with the town name swapped.

No. 05Local lever

Links from your community

Local links tell Google you are a real business in that place: suppliers, associations, sponsorships, local news, home-service directories. Our packages add guest posts and Web 2.0 properties on top, every one listed in the monthly report.

No. 06Local lever

Website signals that back up the profile

The website your profile links to has to say the same things: your services, your towns, your license number, and a page for each main service. When the profile and the site agree, both rank better.

Plate 03 / Seasons

Ask for reviews when the season gives you reasons

A customer who just watched you take down a hornet nest, or whose kitchen ants stopped after one visit, is happy to say so that week. The same customer three months later barely remembers. So the review routine follows the season: termite and ant jobs in spring, mosquito plans and nests in summer, rodent exclusion in fall.

Recurring customers matter twice. They see you four or more times a year, so there are more chances to ask, and their reviews mention the things a new customer worries about: whether the technician shows up on schedule, whether re-services cost extra, whether the pests stayed gone.

Replies count too. A calm, specific answer to a one-star review about pests coming back tells the next reader more about your company than the review itself.

FAQ

Local SEO questions from pest control owners

What is the difference between local SEO and regular SEO for a pest control company?

Local SEO is about the map results and the town-plus-service searches ("exterminator in Brookfield"), where your Business Profile, reviews and distance matter most. Regular SEO is about your website ranking in the normal results. Pest control companies need both, because many calls come from the map and the rest come from service pages.

How do I get my pest control company into the Google Map Pack?

Google says local results depend on relevance, distance and prominence. You can't change distance, but you control relevance (categories, services, a website that matches) and prominence (reviews, citations, links, mentions). Fix the profile first, start the review routine, clean up listings, then build links. Most companies see map movement within a few months.

Can I rank in towns where I don't have an office?

In the Map Pack, distance limits how far you reach, and you should never create a fake address to get around it. In the regular results, a good town page can rank anywhere you really serve. That is how a route that covers a dozen suburbs gets calls from all of them.

Should I hide my address on Google if I work from home?

Yes. Google's guidelines say service-area businesses that don't serve customers at their address should hide it and list the areas they serve instead. Showing a home address doesn't help rankings and invites people to show up at your door.

How many reviews does a pest control company need?

There is no magic number. What matters is how you compare with the companies around you in the map, and that new reviews keep coming in. A company with steady reviews every month usually looks stronger than one with a bigger, older pile.

Do you manage my Google Business Profile for me?

We audit it, give you or your office manager a fixes list in priority order, and set up the review routine with you. You keep ownership and access the whole time. If you want us to make the changes ourselves, we can do that with manager access.
